A Carpet of Gold

Today I went walking on a carpet of gold
It made me wonder about you
If this is what you saw the day your eyes opened wide
And closed again, never to open

Today I was walking and talking to God
Asking for help, again, I know
Today as I walked I saw a carpet of gold
And I wondered, is this what you saw?

When I was told about streets paved with gold
They never seemed to me like a yellow brick road
Or stones, or ingots lined up in a vault
Cold and dead to the world

Streets paved with gold sound more to me
Like the leaves that fall in the autumn
Leaves floating gently down in front of my feet
To lie there waiting for me
To walk on those leaves to you

I walked this morning on a carpet of gold
It made me long to see you again
Like I do so many times a day
I wonder if I'll walk on a path like that
The day I go walking to see you

And I'll see you
And I'll run to you
With my arms out open wide
I'll take you in my arms
And we'll whirl around in joy
And behind you, I'll see God

He'll be standing there smiling at us
I'll be completely happy again
When I walk on that carpet of gold
That leads me home to you.

Such a sad, yet happy at the end work of art. I also loved your post "I Miss Katie". Everything you put out here for us to share is an inspiration as well as testimony of your love for her. Keep it coming ... you are healing and although it's terribly painful, it truly is beautiful to be a part of it. xoxo.

Karen,

I found your blog through Hannah Hunt's site. You may not remember me, but years ago we taught together at RBPC at their Logos program.

You are an amazing writer and are so honest about your emotions. Since discovering your blog a few weeks ago, not a day passes that I don't think of you. It is my wish for you that you feel the thoughts of all of us and are comforted.

Keep up the beautiful writing and photography. I've bookmarked your blog and check back often. Thanks for the inspiration.

Fondly,
Erin Jennings

Thank you for that poem. It's rare to find something that so accurately puts feelings into words. Thank you for being such an example of courage.

Karen, that is a beautiful poem and I can't thank you enough for sharing it. I would hardly call it the work of a beginner, though. You write extremely well, and I always feel enriched after leaving your site. I hope you have a beautiful day, and thank you so much for your continued support.
