Sneak Preview

It's here - the physical proof of my book is here for FINAL proofreading and editing!
This is a preview of the front cover.
I have thought, several times, that I was doing the final editing, but it is amazing to see how many little errors can creep in, between the original MS Word files and photo files, files that have been formatted for design, re-formatted again for electronic proof, and then for the actual physical proof. There are possibilities for things to go awry in each phase, and this means it's necessary to read and re-read the book; each time I think "This is the last step," it turns out that more is required.

For me, this is difficult, because
a) I wrote it
b) I lived in the story
c) I've read it numerous times and
d) some of it is quite difficult to re-visit,
but this is part of the process, so I am doing it. It takes more time than I'd anticipated.

David has been helpful in lending his eyes and thoughts to reading and commenting upon it.

I will keep you informed as soon as it's available online and in bookstores; it looks as if it will take another couple of weeks. Once I send all of the changes to the publisher, they will send me ANOTHER physical proof to approve or reject, and when I accept that, it will be available for anyone to order.

Now you know where I am in the process.

AAARGH! This has got to be wearing you out. I did the same with my dad's book and it still had so many mistakes in it. Keep in mind that it won't probably ever be PERFECT. Perfect is for Heaven. But I do understand the desire to make it the best you can make it. These last steps are hard especially when you are so ready to be done. I was an English major in college, and will be glad to proofread for you if it helps.
Hang in there, girl. It will be worth it.

And I can't wait to get a copy and read it!

You are a brave woman to read and re-read...and trudge back over your story over and over like that. I think doing that would do me in. So happy to see the cover and know it's about ready to be 'born' after all the labor you've put into it. : )

I can't possibly express what I want to. The photo on the cover tells it all.
