A Visit and A Beach Walk

That little furry rascal wouldn't come in at bedtime last night; he woke us up at 3:30 this morning, MEOWING incessantly at our window! RASCAL!

‎"To find the universal elements enough; to find the air & the water exhilarating; to be refreshed by a morning walk or an evening saunter; to be thrilled by the stars at night; to be elated over a bird's nest or a wildflower in spring - these are some of the rewards of the simple life."
-John Burroughs

Gregg & I tend to do a lot of walking in nature when we have free time. We're not mountaineers by any means, but we love to find new places to explore, preferably involving a beach. Today, we took a beach walk in a place he's never visited, and I haven't seen since my youth-group days. It was one of those fall days when the weather was alternating between showers and sun - hot and cold. We dressed for both, and drove south. When we arrived at the state park, we left the car and took a short hike through the lush green woods to the beach.
There was a quiet span of pebbled beach, an island and a sailboat in the background. We walked for a while, and saw some huge, beautiful homes and gardens.
I found heart-shaped rocks; here's one:
and then I noticed a jellyfish in nearly the same shape, nearby:
Weird for a jellyfish, yes?
My love.

After we had hiked back to the car, we went to a pub, had a bit of refreshment and watched part of the local football game. It was tied when we left; we didn't stay for the end. We took a short walk around the marina and downtown Gig Harbor. It is a charming, small town.

Errands and shopping took us to dinner time, when we stopped into a favorite spot to share a salad and have a beer. Then we came home, and called David. He's doing well - so we're happy!

Maribeth was here for a few days this week. She was very busy with her kids, but spent a few nights here with us. It's always wonderful to see her!
Our new favorite red wine: 14 Hands "Hot to Trot."

There was a classic wooden boat show in our town this weekend. Some beautiful boats cruised by our house. Here's an example:
I have a new, little part-time job: creating and maintaining the facebook page for our neighbors' restaurants. If you're on facebook, look for Burrata Bistro & Paella Bar! I'll be updating regularly.

It sounds like a lovely and relaxing afternoon. I thought about you this afternoon, wishing that I could sit and talk to you about obligations; specifically about the role of being someone who has to "inspire."

We'll talk soon, I hope.

What a sweet day. It's so pretty where you live. *sigh* We are having a little bit of fall weather too. Glad to see the changing of the seasons, although it doesn't show itself in as beautiful a way here as where you are. : )

The Northwest is so gorgeous! I would love to walk amongst such scenery....days like that make Mondays seem okay (speaking from someone who wishes there were two Sundays a week).

I'm not really sure how I stumbled upon your blog, but reading your posts makes my day brighter! You remind me a lot of my own mom. I'm 20 and just had surgery to remove a tumor in my colon, so I know how you feel but I am on the other end of it! Your blog and the things you write help me to keep the faith. Thanks. And since you like to use quotes sometimes, here is a favorite of mine:
"Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier." -Mother Teresa

* it makes me smile and i hope it has the same effect of you as well!

Love your walk; makes me wish I had SOMEONE who loved to walk too, cause I sure do.
Glad all is well.

How I would love to tag along with you two on one of your walks. The scenery around here just doesn't compare.

I must try this new favorite red wine of yours!
