A Visit to Katie's Bench

I met Vickie and Kerry at Katie's bench this morning, before we had a cup of coffee together and caught up on each other's lives a bit. It's hard to get our schedules to mesh, as Kerry is a flight attendant and Vickie is in school/working, and both of them have husbands and kids in various places/stages of life.

You can see that it was a beautiful morning, and the view is as pretty as can be. I am thrilled that we are able to have this spot for Katie's memorial bench. I love to think of people sitting here and thinking about her, or just sitting and relaxing, with this gorgeous vista in front of them. The park is a gathering place for many celebrations and holidays throughout the year, and it is a popular place to promenade; it is stroller- and wheelchair-accessible. It is a wonderful gift for the community to enjoy, and we do use and enjoy it!

Vickie and Kerry are two of the "Quad Sisters," who I met 7+ years ago on a women's retreat with our church, and I am thankful for their presence in my life. They prayed faithfully for us all through Katie's illness, and I appreciate it more than I can say. We don't see each other often, but when we do, it's fun and interesting. Today, they each brought a lovely quilt that they had made for the Hem-Onc ward. Thank you both so much for sewing them!

What a beautiful scene to look at from Katie's bench. It could only be at a lovely spot. I'm glad that you could see your friends. Friends are so important.
