We have been busy with the sort of home repairs/maintenance/improvements that come with owning a house for over a decade. Not exciting, but it must be done. Our appliances went on strike at the same time: the microwave oven, dishwasher, one of the conventional ovens and the refrigerator/freezer all developed "issues." Some of them had exceeded their life-expectancy, so hard decisions were made; a couple of appliances were repaired, and others had to go. Fortunately, we found a refrigerator on sale, because none of this was planned.
We said "goodbye" to our old refrigerator, which had become a sort of beloved family-and-friends' photo album.

See all of the decorations? I liked the refrigerator this way. |

The new one is a lot less friendly. |
The new refrigerator looks sleek and it is very nice, but honestly, every time I walk by, it startles me. It looks like Darth Vader, compared to our family-friendly old one. I need time to adjust to the new look.
Other than the business of home maintenance, the pleasures of summer are worth noting.

Funny feet

My feet are not the prettiest, but they work hard and I'm thankful for them! They hold the rest of me up and take me for wonderful, daily walks. |
Cutest Shoes Ever
|
How cute are these shoes? That's a good way to say "Thank you" to those hard-working feet. PLUS, they're comfortable, and when I bought them, a child in need got a pair of shoes, too (they're TOMS)! |
I awoke Saturday and went to sit on our deck. This is what met my eye: sunlight sparkling on salt water, evergreen trees, madrona trees, blue sky.

Salty summer air is the breath of life, to me |
I thought, "I just woke up exactly where I want to be."
It was a good feeling, and I am thankful for it.
I hope that you're also savoring summer's pleasures.

I agree with the Darth Vader analogy for modern refrigerators. I don't know whose idea it was to get rid of those warm and sloppy fridges of old, but I miss them and all the artwork, photos, reminders, etc. that they held.
And I love the shoes!
What a great post. A summary of a life blessed and well-lived. There's nothing like summer.
This post made me so happy. Well, aside from dying appliances....that gets to me too. :) You will get used to Darth vader; I promise.
A stranger gave you his/her heart? That is awesome-sauce!
I LOVE THOSE SHOES....and your toes...but those shoes?? What did JJ Walker say? DY-NO-MITE!!!!
