Snowbirds

One of my favorite things about my parents is the fact that they have the ability to be silly. Very silly. You can see what I mean in these photos.

My dad was in theatre when he was a young man, and he was a disc jockey, too. He has a natural penchant for the dramatic, and especially for humor. My mom laughs more easily than any other person I know. They are both quick-witted, and are a match made in heaven.

Mom and Dad came over last night. They are “snowbirds,” and are flying south for the winter today. We traditionally have them over for dinner on the night before they depart, so that they don’t have to keep any food in the refrigerator, or go to any trouble on their last night at home. We call this dinner (with no disrespect to anyone) the last supper.

David was the photographer last night, during the cocktail hour, and these are his photos.

Bon Voyage, Snowbirds! We love you and are looking forward to seeing you soon!

Maui is one of those places that fills up with snowbirds in the winter. Our church there is full of them, and they are often people with both time and money, the resources to serve, so that's what they do. They stuff envelopes, fold bulletins, help with sound, and just generally spread cheer (because they are in such good moods!) They make very fine friends and we have become attached to a number of snowbirds in our years there. I hope your parents get as much as they give on their journey to sunshine, and I know you know you are blessed to have such wonderful parents.

I hope your parents have a wonderful time. They are darling, by the way. The apple obviously doesn't fall far from the tree. :)

Your parents rock. Their smiles make them look as if they're always up to somethig. Ha! Safe travels to them...are you going to come down this way to visit them in Palm Springs this year? We can come up and meet you, have a spa day!
