A Beach Walk

Gregg and I took a beach walk this morning. We saw some bald eagles, and this one was sitting on a rock.
There was a sailboat race going on behind him.

When I walked closer to get a better photo of the eagle, he flew away

and went to sit in a tree.

Around this time of year, starfish are plentiful on the beach.
One year, when the kids were young, we took a long beach walk during their spring break, and counted over 200 starfish!
They come in the most intense and beautiful colors, some of which surprised me, when I first saw them: denim blue

teal

purple
and electric orange, among others.

We found some beach glass, pottery, shells and an Indian bead. We used to find beads all of the time, when I was growing up. They are made of glass, from Russia, and were used in trade with the Native Americans, in exchange for fur pelts. The one I found today is a rare color; most of them are cobalt blue, but this one (on the left) is teal.

Walking on the beach is always a treat.

Ok, now I must plan a trip to Washington. I love the Eagle...they are so beautiful and such a great symbol for our country. THose starfish are just amazing. I have never seen them in person so colorful....we just have the regular tan/orange ones, and I never go out far enough to see them...they rarely come on shore.
Indian beads? This is something I have never heard of...soooo cool.
I love, love, LOVE Sea glass. It is rare to find it here on the west coast of Florida, but can be found on the East coast. Thanks for sharing your walk with us...I feel I was ALMOST there with you guys. ;)

Yes, you should come this way! There is so much to see, as long as you don't mind cooler weather than you are used to having.

Those photos are very inspirational. We used to find beads on the beaches too, but I never knew the history, thanks. I haven't taken a good northwest beach walk in a while, with a little planning I think the wee one would enjoy it. :)

I love the ocean. I used to be afraid, but now I just love it. Last time I was in Washington a young man asked us where we were from and when we said Utah he shuttered, "I could never live in the middle -- I have to live on the edge by the water."

LOVELY to see those brightly colored starfish again! But I'd never seen one of those beads before; I must have an inferior beach! The new one is just gorgeous...

Karen I am sure you understand and remember that state of limbo.

I won't even dare pretend I know what you have gone through.

My oldest daughter Angelique has lupus and when she was 21 had to have chemo for 3 years. Her kidneys work now at 40% and she can be very sore.

Angelique had her first child (my only granddaughter Josephine) when she was 31 and they told her in chemo that would never happen.

I know I can never ever understand your loss but I know even from the worries we have had and the hospital times with Angelique I am sure that it has left you where you die before you die too.

I'm so sorry about Katie.

Love Renee xoxoxo

I am such a downer.

I want to also say to you and that is what I meant to do and say your son looks like he will be a very good man.

Diane, I was thinking of our day and your photos as I took these.

Karla & Diane,
The beads show up where the native people spent time...my parents' beach was much visited by the tribe, and the beach where I found this one is adjacent to tribal land...I believe that the Suquamish used to go over to B.I. for fishing, berries, burials, etc.

AnnDeO, I know just how that man felt.

Renee, thank you for all of your thoughts shared here.
