HAPPY (belated) ANNIVERSARY,
MOM AND DAD!
56 years is a wonderful accomplishment.
Their anniversary is actually on the 17th, but they wanted to do this on a different day. (Katie passed away the day before their 55th, so I have a feeling that that has affected the day a bit, for them, but it doesn't diminish the fact that they have been married 56 years, and are still best friends.) They are a fun couple, and we enjoy their company.
We had a clam-fest here last night to celebrate. We all love crab, but it's been hard to catch crab this summer. I bought 15 pounds of clams, Mom and Dad brought their outdoor burner, Gregg made a broth of water, white wine and garlic, and we had a feast. We started with wine and hors d'oeuvres, sitting on the deck, while the clams cooked. When they were ready, we sat down at the picnic table and enjoy the clams with melted butter, whole-grain breads, salad, and some of us had mugs of the clam "nectar" (broth). Later, we had apple pie with vanilla bean ice cream for dessert. YUM!
(David is holding Latte; the cat kept trying to investigate, as he was interested in the fishy smell.)

What a wonderful celebration. Congrats to them both, I would be proud too.
Can you believe I have never had clams? Something about them...they look fishy to me. ;) I actually like fish though....
your parents look so sweet! i can tell on their faces they are a happy couple- it really radiates. i'm glad they are there for you, as you are for them.
My Grandparents will also celebrate their 56h this year! Their anniversary, October 18, is also the day David and I have decided to marry. We thought that there is nothing more inspiring than a couple who is as much in love today as they were 56 years ago when they were married.
Congrats to them :) what a fabulous party! (we don't come across as much fresh seafood in Ohio as you would on the coast!)
Karen, I am SO FAR BEHIND on reading your blog... please accept my apologies.
And please extend my congrats to the happy couple on 56 years of bliss! That is a HUGE accomplishment!
